No one can teach for twenty-five years without some rebellious thoughts. As Spring breezes disturbingly permeate the class room and ruffle the professor’s hair, he eventually recognizes that youth is too good a thing to waste on young people. Hence, “Spring on the Campus.” This number was a hit feature of a Pittsburgh Playhouse musical production.

Spring is a wonderful season,
It’s quite the best time of the year -
I see no particular reason
Why we shouldn’t all shout “Spring is here!”
Spring is here, spring is here, spring is here!
Have I made myself perfectly clear?

It’s spring on the campus, it’s spring!
It’s spring in the hearts of the students of Arts,
Even engineers know that it’s spring.
It’s spring on the campus it’s spring!
Our ancient professors are now the possessors
Of springtime, that wonderful thing!
It’s spring for the dogs and cats -
It’s spring in the beanery, spring in the scenery
See all that greenery spring!

Spring’s the right time for the springtime,
It’s never quite right in the fall -
It’s quite out of place in the summer,
And in winter it won’t do at all -
It’s spring, and its time for the spring;
May I say that the bird’s on the wing?

It’s spring on the campus, it’s spring!
The Margaret Morrison girls are all chorusin’
“Spring is the time for a fling!”
It’s spring on the campus, it’s spring!
Our dear registrar sings “Tra-Ia, la la lar!”
And he sings it with plenty of swing.
It’s spring for the board of trustees -
They’ve changed to their light B.V.D.’s.
The birdies sing “tweet” by the president’s suite
And again I repeat that it’s spring.

Sap starts to rise in the springtime -
And love starts to burgeon and bloom -
That hearts change their tempo to swing-time
I feel that we may safely assume -
Be it Amour Toujour in the spring!
Who knows what the summer may bring?

It’s spring on the campus, it’s spring!
Shall we hark to the lark who enthralls Schenley Park
With his trills, which are darned, hard to sing -
It’s spring on the campus, it’s spring!
Who is that Fawn, dancing light on the lawn
With that Dryad around in a ring?
It’s our dear Deans of Women and Men -
They think they are twenty again.
It’s best in a way that the term ends in May
For there’s too much Hey Hey! in the spring!
